Discover Irish Leather

In November 1899, J. gordon Bennett, the flamboyant and highly driven American media mogul of Irish descent, established the first international motor racing cup. While the French won the first competitions, an Englishman took the trophy in 1902: since motor racing was prohibited on British public roads at the time, the 4th Gordon Bennett Cup was thus staged on 2 July 1903 on a closed-road circuit... in Ireland. To honour its host neighbour, the British team decided to race in cars painted green, a colour that would famously become known as ‘British Racing Green’. The first major modern race to receive international press coverage, the Gordon Bennett Cup is commemorated each year.

Memory
One of those icy, biting mornings. Pink pepper. The sun peeks through the heavy grey clouds. Oil of clary sage. The wind slips beneath your clothes. Juniper berry. Morning dew soaks the grass. At last the stable, the wooden tack room doors, the burning scent of leather, wood, amber and honey. An age-old odour. Green maté absolute. The soft whinny of the horse. Oil of flouve. The smell of freedom. The leather gathers in the wind, the grass warms with the wood. Tonka bean absolute. Irish Leather gallops off into the horizon.
